Women’s empowerment refers to women’s ability to make life choices where that ability had been earlier denied them. There should be no bias between men and woman. Women should have now there social and fundamental rights which they get once they born.

Empowerment is central to the process of maintaining the benefits of women at an individual, household, community and broader levels. It involves the action of encouragement the status of women through education, literacy, training and raising awareness. Therefore, women’s empowerment is all about allowing women to make life-determining choices across different issues. We all know that the ratio of girls in our country is less as compared to boys. And it is due to the traditional mentality of society who wants to have only boys and not girls. The need for women empowerment arose because of discrimination between men and women and male domination in the Indian society since ancient time. Gender inequality still prevails in India because of which women are being suppressed by society and their family members for many reasons. Many times they have been targeted for violence and discriminatory practices by the male members of the family in India and other countries as well.

Women have enjoyed a better position in the Rig-Vedic period which deteriorated in the Vedic civilization. In Vedic civilization onwards women were denied the right to widow remarriage, right to education, right to inheritance and ownership of property. Social troubles like dowry system and child marriage get worse the situations more for women. During the Gupta period, the status of women deteriorated extremely and institutions like Sati Pratha and dowry became more prominent.

During the British Raj, many social reformers have started agitations for the empowerment of women and as a result of their efforts Sati Pratha was finally abolished and the Widow Remarriage Act was formulated.

Women empowerment has become a much discussed and raised topic all around the world. In India, women have always been a victim of honour killings. They have been deprived of basic rights for proper education and freedom for years. In this male-dominated society, they face abuse, violence and other ill-treatment. Women empowerment is not a new concept and its need was sensed even earlier before independence. Not only in India but in all over the world women have faced abomination and thus since the beginning of history they have been challenging gender inequalities. Many men have also been supported the struggles for women empowerment.

The legendary Swami Vivekananda quoted that “There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved. It is not possible for a bird to fly on only one wing.”

Women no longer need men to rely on. Nothing is beatable for a women, all they need is support and lots of love.
Also, women need to be given equal opportunities for employment and education without any discrimination. Merely provide women with legal and constitutional rights will be simply insufficient unless and until there does not come a tremendous change in society towards women.A woman is a one of most powerful creature in this living earth. Women not only compromises her family, but in the time of need, she tends to have such energy to make things go in a right way whether the cost to it themselves. The main aim of women empowerment is providing strength to them.It is believed that economic strength is the basis power in the society .Thus the lower stratum of woman mostly originates from their low economic status and subsequently dependence and lack of decision making power. So if women gain economic strength they can gain visibility and voice. Women empowerment helps them to look upon their lives as a confident being. It encourages women to fight for their rights and live a worthy life. There is not a big but a little bit of change in the mindset of people so that they are allowing women to walk on the route of development. Allowing women’s to direct participation in decision-making capacity and income generation activities can make significant contributions towards women empowerment. This will facilitate women to take the initiative for their development into their own hands. The entrepreneurship can help women to gain and improve their social status and economic development and appreciate their abilities.

It improves their status and leads to the integration of women in nation building and economic. It provides the needed psychological satisfaction and inspires them with a deep sense of achievements to create their identity in society.
